Annual Reports

Presidents have State of the Union speeches. Musicians have Carnegie Hall. Advertisers have the Super Bowl. Graduate students have theses.

Companies have annual reports.

The annual report is a company's seminal communications opportunity: the chance to communicate the very essence of the organization, the power of its accomplishments and its promise of its plans for future success, to the audiences that matter most - stockholders, customers, analysts and journalists.

It has become somewhat trendy these days for some companies to downplay the AR, in order to show the shareholders how frugal they can be. You've seen them - 6-point black type, reprinting the 10-K, with a perfunctory canned memo over the chairman's signature - or, worse, several executives.

As you might imagine, if you're reading this propaganda about our annual report services, we're not sure that's the best idea.

It seems to us that when a company is offered an opportunity to make its primary case to those who matter most, that company ought to put a little effort into it.
